Changelog

What's new, improved, and fixed in every release.

July 2026

v1.9.0Link to v1.9.0

Latest

New

  • Auto-blur sensitive text: one click scans your recording on-device and drops a blur over every email address it finds, with optional phone number detection and a custom keyword list for names, domains, or IDs. Nothing leaves your Mac
  • Detected blurs are tracked, not static: they follow the text as the page scrolls and stay locked on through auto-zoom, in both the preview and the export
  • Every screen change is scanned, so even a dialog that flashes for a fraction of a second gets caught. Each blur lands as a regular timeline item you can review, adjust, or delete before exporting

Improved

  • Noise Reduction now runs on DeepFilterNet 3, a modern neural denoiser. Fan noise, room rumble, and electrical hum that the old engine left audible are now gone, while your voice stays natural. Works on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs
  • Zoom in and out move like a camera operator: motion starts gently, peaks mid-move, and settles softly instead of jumping to full speed on the first frame. Zoom-outs also linger a touch longer than zoom-ins
  • Audio Enhance shows live progress from the moment you flip a toggle, and tells you when noise reduction is skipped because macOS Voice Isolation already cleaned the mic during recording

v1.8.0Link to v1.8.0

New

  • Audio clips on the timeline are now fully editable: trim from either edge, split at the playhead, and drag to reposition. Trimming slides the waveform so you can see exactly which part of the file plays
  • Audio clips play in the editor preview, in sync with the video, exactly as they will sound in the export (including over cut regions)
  • Per-clip volume, fade in, and fade out controls in the Audio panel, applied in both preview and export
  • Export your recording's microphone or system audio as an M4A file: right-click the track in the timeline. Re-import it in this or any other project as an editable audio clip, so you can cut and rearrange a voiceover freely

Fixed

  • Exports no longer hang at 99% on recordings where the mic audio ends slightly before the video, which is common with USB and other external mics on longer recordings
  • Failed exports now clean up after themselves instead of leaving large unplayable video files on disk

May 2026

v1.7.1Link to v1.7.1

Fixed

  • Webcam, mic, and system audio capture toggles now persist between app launches, so the camera track is no longer silently dropped after quitting and reopening Screen Bolt

v1.7.0Link to v1.7.0

New

  • 11 new wallpaper background presets: Tahoe, Aurora, Slate, Graphite, Midnight, Dawn, Dusk, Aqua, Lavender, Sand, and Storm

Improved

  • Cursor motion is now cinematic. Fast cursor moves glide into a long eased arc instead of jumping point-to-point, and every move accelerates out of rest and decelerates into its destination like a film camera
  • Clicks land exactly where the cursor was pointed, with a visible deceleration into the click point — no more cursor trailing the click ring on fast end-of-flick clicks
  • Idle cursor is rock-still. The sub-pixel shake that crept in on stationary frames is gone
  • Auto-zoom in and out no longer slide sideways before the zoom kicks in. Zoom now leads the pan — the world comes forward first, then the camera glides into the target. Same on the way out: zoom retreats first, then the camera eases back to neutral
  • Cursor and zoom motion are computed once per project from a 240 Hz baked curve, so 30 fps and 60 fps exports look identical and scrubbing matches playback exactly

v1.6.0Link to v1.6.0

New

  • Backspace and forward-delete now remove the selected timeline item (annotation, blur region, text overlay, image, audio clip), single or multi-select, instead of only working on video clips

Improved

  • Auto-zoom transitions feel more cinematic. The camera now snaps toward the focus and decelerates into it on the way in, then releases gradually on the way out, instead of the old symmetric ease
  • Auto-zoom holds at full zoom for longer (1.8s instead of 0.6s) so viewers can actually parse what was clicked before the camera pulls back
  • Annotation bars on the timeline now show the shape's own glyph (arrow, rectangle, line, highlight, callout) and pick up the annotation's chosen colour, so each one reads at a glance instead of looking like every other overlay
  • Blur regions render an always-visible dashed outline, so you can see exactly what's covered even when the blur strength is low or the camera is zoomed in
  • The window picker no longer shows closed-app ghosts, floating overlays, or tiny palette windows. Only real, visible, on-screen windows make the list
  • Mic level meter sits a touch lower in the recording bar so it doesn't crowd the icon
  • Renamed the auto-zoom transition speed presets to Snappy, Smooth, and Cinematic, and lowered the default in/out duration to 0.6s for a tighter feel

v1.5.1Link to v1.5.1

New

  • Pick which monitor to record on multi-display setups — the Display button now opens a menu listing every connected screen with its name and resolution

Improved

  • Screen Bolt defaults to recording the display the app window is on, instead of always picking the primary

v1.5.0Link to v1.5.0

Fixed

  • Cursor stays glued to where it actually was in recordings that were paused mid-session. Previously, after the first pause the cursor would freeze and jiggle near the middle for the rest of the video
  • Same fix for keypress overlays — timestamps stay aligned with the video timeline across pauses
  • Long 1080p / 720p MOV exports no longer fail near the end with "Export stalled" — the watchdog gives the encoder more headroom during heavy back-pressure

April 2026

v1.4.1Link to v1.4.1

New

  • Live mic level meter under the Mic button on the recording bar — confirms your mic is hot before you hit record

Improved

  • Long screen recordings with a wallpaper background no longer slow to a crawl partway through; the wallpaper is decoded once instead of on every frame
  • Stall detection during export is more forgiving — a single slow frame won't throw away an in-progress export

v1.4.0Link to v1.4.0

Improved

  • Blur regions now actually blur the underlying pixels in both the preview and the exported video — the intensity slider, Gaussian and Pixelate styles, and fade in/out all apply to real footage

Fixed

  • The screen corner-radius slider now applies to exported videos, not just the editor preview
  • Device frames stay centered when the editor canvas's aspect ratio doesn't match the device's screen rect

v1.3.5Link to v1.3.5

Improved

  • Projects autosave every 30 seconds and whenever the app loses focus, so zoom regions, cursor settings, overlays, and timeline edits survive a Cmd-Q or crash

Fixed

  • Opening a saved project from Finder no longer leaves the recording bar hovering behind the editor
  • Cmd-Q while the editor was open no longer wipes in-progress edits — the app waits for the snapshot to reach disk before terminating

v1.3.3Link to v1.3.3

Fixed

  • Opening a saved project file from Finder now opens a full editor window with titlebar and traffic-light controls, instead of a chromeless floating frame

v1.3.2Link to v1.3.2

Fixed

  • Fewer keychain password prompts on launch — licence state is now read once per session instead of on every check

v1.3.1Link to v1.3.1

Fixed

  • Auto-hide when Static now actually hides the cursor after it stops moving
  • Click highlight and cursor press effect animate through when scrubbing a paused preview instead of freezing on the first frame

v1.3.0Link to v1.3.0

Improved

  • Polished installer — drag-to-Applications layout with a clear visual flow
  • Permission prompts now explicitly note that recordings stay on your Mac

v1.2.0Link to v1.2.0

New

  • Pause and restart controls in the playback bar

Improved

  • Refined playback bar design
  • Lower idle energy use — preview pauses rendering when the editor is idle
  • Faster project saves; large projects no longer hang the UI
  • More reliable long recordings with disk-space safeguards and frame-drop telemetry
  • Smoother cursor rendering by reducing per-frame CPU work
  • Voice enhance uses less memory on long recordings

Fixed

  • Auto-play in the preview works reliably
  • Cancelling an export no longer leaves partial files behind

v1.1.0Link to v1.1.0

New

  • Auto zoom that follows clicks and keystrokes
  • Device frames: MacBook, iPhone, iPad, and browser mockups
  • Webcam overlay with shape and border controls
  • Teleprompter with cue markers
  • Cursor effects: highlight, resize, smooth, and animate
  • Rich overlays: text, images, annotations, and blur regions
  • Custom backgrounds: gradients, solid colors, and images
  • GIF export with quality presets
  • Presets and templates for common workflows
